Pastor Herman Tang and Mrs. Eleanor Tang

Herman Cheuk-Man Tang was born into an idol-worshipping family in Hong Kong. He grew up in the village of Ping Shan, an area where basically every family worshipped idols and ancestors.
The seeds of the gospel became sown into his heart when he attended a Christian high school. During those years he read the Bible and sang hymns. It was the Word of God that brought him to realize that he was a sinner before God. One year after he publicly made a decision to accept Christ as his Lord and Savior, he was baptized and became an active member of the Bread of Life (Ling Liang) Church.

At the age of twenty, Herman felt that the Lord was calling him into the pastoral ministry. He consulted with his pastor who lovingly guided him to understand God's calling and supported him in every possible way to get trained. Pastor Tang received a Bachelor of Theology from the Alliance Bible Seminary in Hong Kong. In 1975 he became the Pastor of the Causeway Bay Alliance Church in Hong Kong. He met his wife, Eleanor, who also attended the seminary with a major in Christian education. After their marriage in 1976, they came to the U.S. where he received a Master of Divinity degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois.

In 1979, Pastor Tang was invited to preach at First Chinese Baptist Church of Los Angeles and was offered an opportunity to care for the Chinese-speaking ministry at FCBC. He was officially called to be the Director of Chinese-speaking Ministries for FCBC in June 1980. Pastor Tang was ordained in April, 1981 by FCBC; and became Pastor-in-charge in July, 1985. The Lord has blessed him with further opportunity to equip him for His kingdom. Pastor Tang returned to Trinity and earned a Doctor of Ministry degree in June, 1993. Pastor Tang felt that he was extremely blessed to have the honor to serve with so many dedicated people in FCBC for 17 years!

In June 1997, the Tang family moved from Los Angeles, California to Rochester, New York to join Rochester Chinese Christian Church and became their pastor. Pastor Tang loved the environment and the people there in Upstate New York so much that he thought he would stay there for a long time. Yet the Lord has other plan for him and his wife. In 2004, Mrs. Tang was diagnosed to have Rheumatoid Arthritis. After much prayerful consideration, Pastor and Mrs. Tang believe that the Lord has prepared the way for them to return to California where the climate is more conducive to Mrs. Tang's health. Submissively they move back to Irvine, CA after 10 wonderful years in Rochester, NY.

Beginning July 1, 2007, Pastor Tang serves as the new Senior Pastor of our church.

Pastor and Mrs. Tang are blessed to have two children named Julia and Jesse.
