G. Campbell Morgan had already enjoyed some success as a preacher by the time he was 19 years old. But he was then attacked by doubts about the Bible. The writings of various scientists and agnostics disturbed him. Morgan became more and more perplexed. He said to himself, "I am no longer sure that this is what my father claims it to be -- the Word of God. But of this I am sure. If it be the Word of God, and if I come to it with an unprejudiced and open mind, it will bring assurance to my soul of itself." Morgan was right. He later said that the Bible had found him! He continued with his preaching ministry for the following 60 years. (Wycliffe Handbook of Preaching & Preachers, Moody, 1984, p. 211.) Reasonable doubt can lead to blessed assurance. I was an inquisitive teenager when I first heard the gospel. I asked tons of questions of my friends who were trying to help me to understand the truth. Some of my questions were genuine, but some were just nonsense. Looking back, I really thank God for the love and patience my pastor and friends in church had shown me. They treated me with respect. They never got mad at me because of my silly questions. The Lord used their guidance to open my eyes and my heart. The horizon of the pursuit for truth has been ever expanding for my inquisitive soul. Knowing Jesus has been the best thing that ever happened in my life. I am truly grateful that God has counted me worthy to be entrusted as a messenger of His eternal word. The longer I study and preach the Bible, the stronger assurance I have that the Bible is the Word of God. I can’t but be humble to my God. “Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.” (Psalm 119:18)

( 威克理夫講道與傳道人手冊, 慕迪出版社, 1984, 211頁。) 一些合理的疑問可以領我們進到有福的確據. 我頭一次聽見福音的時候, 還是個好問的十幾歲的年青人. 我向那些試圖幫助我去明白真理的朋友們提出了一籮籮的問題. 我的問題有些是真誠的, 但有些卻是一派胡言. 回過頭來看, 我真的為著我的牧師和教會朋友們對我的愛心和忍耐感謝神. 他們尊重我, 從來沒有因著我那些無聊的問題而對我生氣. 上帝就用他們的指導來打開我的眼睛和我的心靈. 使我的心靈在追求真理的領域當中, 越來越擴大. 認識耶穌是我生命中最奇妙的事情. 我感謝上帝, 他不但沒有把我丟棄, 反而把傳揚祂那永恆的真道的責任託付給我. 我讀聖經和做傳道工作越久, 我對聖經就是神的話語這個概念就越強, 叫我無法不在神的面前謙卑下來. “求祢開我的眼睛, 使我看出祢律法中的奇妙.” (詩篇119:18)
