Word from the SENIOR pastor

January 29, 2012

Our Lord is the Prince of Peace. He is a Peacemaker. But our Lord is not a pacifist. When my generation was in our teenage years, people loved to sing anti-war songs. I was fond of those songs as well, such as “Where have all the flowers gone?”, “Blowing in the wind”, and “Give peace a chance”. At that time, I sympathized with pacifism. I felt sad when people died in wars. But as I grew older and after becoming a Christian, I have come to a better understanding of the Bible, and I now truly admire those faith heroes who willingly went into battle because of their love for God, for their country and for their own people. The Bible says, “A time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.” (Ecclesiastes 3:8) The story of Caleb and Joshua going into the Promised Land teaches us to obey God and to be courageous when we face the battles in our lives. Nehemiah said, “After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, ‘Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.’ ” (Nehemiah 4:14) Today, even though we may not be fighting a physical war, we should still maintain the spirit of a Christian solider.
